Bach Cello Suite No. 1
I had my teacher's Italian Double Bass circa 1700 on loan for the weekend, and I thought I would put it good use with a recording.
The piece is Bach's 1st Suite for Unaccompanied Cello Solo (I transcribed it for bass). Each link is for a separate movement, and the movements are as follows:
I - Prelude (2:28 )

II - Allemande (4:28 )
http://s47.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=161W ... EQWOKHXZ9G
III - Courante (2:12)
http://s47.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3RCP ... PQVF66JE2N
IV - Sarabande (2:30)

V - Minuet I / Minuet II (4:01)
http://s47.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1UI7 ... 6FUWWZ9RQ9
VI - Gigue (1:39 )
http://s47.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2T45 ... 5AIPFJEL2U
The recording was made in my friend's basement studio using a digital microphone with a 32 track digital soundboard recorder. The files were mastered using ProTools.
It is my entry to the MET Opera audition. If they like it, I get a live audition for a real gig in an amazing orchestra!
Comments welcome!

Thanks so much! Get the Organ Preludes performed by Ton Koopman or the Cello Suites on cello by Fournier or Wispelwey.BenPezzner wrote:I didn't know it was possible to get a bass to sound that beautiful. Anyway, you inspired me to go out and purchase some Bach.
I'd hate to be the people competing against you for that spot in the MET Opera.

I suck compared to some of the guys playing. My friend Dan is in the Munich Phil and he is auditioning... but I appreciate the kudos.

once again, sry for the double post, but I have not figured out how to double quote yet.mlb1399 wrote:Sounds awesome! I only listened to the first part but really cool. Love hearing something besides the typical songs on here.
I just figured since was the recording section, I would post what I record, and I am glad that the response has been positive. I have about 2 Cd's worth of stuff, and if you all want, I will gladly upload it all.

Will gladly do that. I have the complete concerto recording, Bach suite no. 2, and a few others I can find....including a double concerto with my girlfriend (clarinet) and our university orchestra.
Thanks for the compliments!
The cello and keyboard playing on your site are pretty kickass too!
I love the ensemble work on the cello pieces. How long you been playing and where do u go to school? You def got talent there!

thanks! The real hard part is the live audition. I need to be able to play 100 excerpts from opera parts from memory, as well as have 6 solo pieces memorized.

HELL yes! #2 is magical! I actually have tickets to see the Emerson Quartet play some when they play in NYC next year.
Shostakovich #8 is also on my top list.

I can check with my friend, but he has a pretty professional set-up in his basement with a mixing board, a soundproof room for the actual recording, and a small editing station.
I think the microphone was like 800 though on ebay.
