WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!

mayer's got no soul. and we'll see if peopl are still listening to him after 11 years!

that is all

dave > mayer
are you suggesting that dave's chord structures are more complex than mayers? I'm wondering whether or not I should believe you've even had 5 or however many years of lessons...

Mayer has no soul??

listen to his acoustic version of Neon from Inside Wants Out. and everything else on that album, for that matter. its easier to appreciate how good he is, when its just him and an acoustic.
good, and you?

listening to it now...just goes to show me why I think he's a better rhythm guitarist than dave...while not all of his stuff is quite as different as dave's, I'd take the love soon riff over just about any dave song...love soon really is just a song to show off how great and versatile the acoustic is...it's got a bit of an open sound which is always good while few open chords are utilized so as to give it still a unique sound, and then the thing towards the end "bypass the bullshit.." is just great, and live as an outro he does some cool lead work while keeping the rhythm going on his own, and he also used to do a crazy live intro that puts any acoustic playing dave's done to shame

Love Soon is probably my favorite Mayer song to play. mind you, I don't know that many, but this one just sounds so great. I espeically love the part where he goes:

"its time that we say it" the quick C to D than G part, it just clicks.

His ability to string chords together in a song, is nothing short of greatness.
good, and you?

agreed, he has an incredible grasp of melody and his expansive knowledge of the guitar allows him to write some really great songs...

i must say, this has been the most amusing thread ive read in a long time...i have a lot to say. first of all, i agree with jason and superman on their opinions of john mayer (he has no soul, and dave's guitar work is better, albeit less complex, than his. the one mayer song i liked was his cover of message in a bottle, but really its just that its a good song) as for jason and gcom, what is with your oral obsession? that really got to be a bit much....
oh and gcom?
stop waving your years of music theory around like they're some fucking banner for everyone to follow your idiot views. its people like you that ruin music by making it clinical. you cant appreciate a damn thing unless its got a unique chord structuring and all that crap. why dont you just listen for stuff that sounds good instead of analyzing the shit out of it just like john mayer and his damn music-school pop-shit mentality?

waffle...dude...that is fuckin exactly what i think...people like gcom just care about chord structure and intracacies and all that bullshit that doesnt matter one fuckin damn god damn mother fuckin son of a bitchin bit...ants marching...its the same riff over and over, with the chorus and one other little part and the fuckin song blows any mayer song out of the fuckin water...there are tons and tons and tons of people that "know theory" and "chord structuring" that are just like mayer(take TICOHANS, I think they guy sounds just like like mayer maybe even BETTER)...but those guys will never know what sounds awesome like dave does...daves got a 50000000 times better ear for good music than they do.

Hey Tico, this post is in no way supposed to offend you, just trying to make a point...peace
