mixer/line 6 dl-4

Unread post by jigger_3 » Tue Mar 29, 2005 10:45 pm

Does it work to go mixer effects send -> dl-4 -> mixer effects return? I think I am going to buy a dl-4 soon and was wondering if this would work (so I could order more cables). The reason I ask is that I read a review somewhere that said the dl-4 only accepts instrument levels not line levels

what kind of mixer do you have?

this might help...
"All Studio Modelers feature both XLR balanced outputs and 1/4 inch unbalanced outputs. You can even connect them to a TRS effects loop like the ones found on other Line 6 rack and combo products."

source:
http://line6.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/line6 ... ZT0x&p_li=

so according to that, you can connect it to an efx loop on line 6 rack stuff.. i would assume that all products with effects loops are the same signal.. so i would think it works

also, you can post a question on that page i linked

I've got the same equipment, the 802 and the Dl4 and it works swimmingly.

Howie Day uses one through a mixer for his vocals and another for his guitar so yes it accept line levels too.

You can see his setup here.. http://www.hdaee.org/

If I remember correctly, he runs it through one of the main outs of the mixer but I guess they would be line level too.

edit: I checked the picture on that link and it does look like that is what he does

he uses the mixer so he can run guitar effects on his voice without muddying up the sound with "adapters."

If you wanted to use the mixer as the heart of your floor setup, you can use an effects loop for both your voice and your guitar. Mic > line 1 > FX Send > various guitar effects > FX Return/AUX Return......there you can use your MIX pot to "mix" your dry vocals with your FX'd vocals. you can do the same with your guitar...then run from the Main outs to the main board or a powered speaker and you're set.

I bought the dlr4 and to be honest, I'm really not that happy with it. Granted, I can get some cool stuff out of it, but it craps out on me alot. The delay timing knob is really really inconsistent.

Thats just me though...has anybody else had these problems with their dlr4???
