Dave Matthews is not a Quaker. If he were, his name would be Jebediah and he'd be living in a log cabin with no electricity in Pennsylvania farming and shit.

Maybe he's a gay Quaker.

Where in the name of God did you hear that?!
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

I am just quoting. If i read it somewhere else, or some random dude told me I would blow it off. But it says it on this Haverford college website. And they are giving him one of these awards, so I assume they know about him pretty well.

Dave Matthews's parents were indeed Quakers, so he was raised a Quaker. I think it's safe to say he's not currently practicing any religion.

You are misinformed my friend. Take some time to read up on it. Quakers (or Friends) are a denomination of the Christian faith. The minimalistic lifestyle is not a requirement for them. As Brock said, Dave's parents were/are Quakers and raised him under those ideals....and he actively displays alot of the ideals that are the cornerstone of the the Quakers.

Well, his reference to God as "it" in Grey Street says, to me, that he does not still hold the exact beliefs lain out in his Quaker upbringing.

Watch the second charlie rose interview and he explains why he is unsure of God's presence in his life. After his father and sister died of cancer and domestic homicide respectively, he figured that God had a lot of holes in his "righteous power" and did not deserve to be worshipped. Something along those lines.
