"Bartender" Question
I recently watched the DM Storytellers for the first time (I KNOW!!), and I was confused when Iheard he and Tim playing "Bartender."
Why, if they had this song since then, have they waited so long to record it, as it was only released on "Busted Stuff" as far as I know? Has it been a staple of their live performances throughout, or did it have some short runs in the shows and they have now decided to add it to their permanent rep?
Thanks a lot guys!

It was previously known as Leave Me Praying and Reconcile Our Differences. I'm not sure in which order. Check out http://www.dmbalmanac.com that usual has answers.

Leave Me Praying and Weight of the World were actualy early DDTW. Leave Me Praying was not an early Bartender.
Now the earliest Bartender was a rejected intro for DDTW. Then Dave and Tim fiddled around with it, and it became known as either Reconcile Our Differences or #58 (someone numbered it that online somewhere and it went everywhere, but it's not acurately #58.). Also, being the first new tune since BTCS, everyone thought it was Machead, but ineed it was not. Dave and Tim did it nurmerous times, and it would lead into DDTW sometimes. Eventualy the lyrics started to talk about a Bartender. Dave said that came from a guy who saw as god being a bartender and such, and was killed for that analogy. So those lyrics just sneaked in. Eventualy, the lyrics became steady, and are the lyrics we hear today, but it was much more mellow and tame. Then, when DMB went in the studio for 2000, they brought it out (as well as digging a ditch that dave and tim played, and john the revelator which became jtr).
Now, MahlerGrooves, I assume you have no clue about the Lillywhite Sessions. I am not going to explain that ordeal to you, lol. Someone else can do that! It was first released on Live @ Folsom Feild. Then, when they band got back together with the scrapped LWS songs, they recorded it for Busted Stuff.
Now, someone else deal with the LWS, I have typed enough for 3 days.

I know all about the LWS (recorded before Everyday, but then the band went on tour. They got leaked on the net even though DMB scrapped the recording session and released a diff studio album....right??)
I will hit you nice people up for the file sharing you have offered once I get back to my house (I am in NJ for Easter celebrations with the family). I appreciate the help and look forward to listening to the LWS and earlier versions of, seemingly, many songs in the DMB collection.
You guys really are all so helpful. Thanks!

RT, I was waiting for you to respond as this topic has been discussed several times on this board and each time you've been there to set the record straight!Ranting Thespian wrote:Leave Me Praying and Weight of the World were actualy early DDTW. Leave Me Praying was not an early Bartender.

Here is a good Rolling Stone article about the Lillywhite Sessions and Busted Stuff, there is a lot about Bartender in it.
