Fuller #41

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Fuller #41

Unread post by Elliottman » Tue Mar 29, 2005 10:33 am

Just wondering if there is is a different way to play the chorus to #41. When i play it, it just seems to lack the fullness? Yes or No?

Also while im here, on GGP CD, at the end of #41 the crowd start chanting Everyday, did they do this because Dave has done the #41/Everyday thing before? or what?

Thanks

I don't have that problem, I think it just gets better with time. Remember that the tabs on here are a general recipe that can be interpreted how you want it to sound. Dave does a lot of jamming and will change rhythyms and what strings he is hitting so experiment with it until you get a sound that you like. You could always try Howie Day's version of #41 hdaee.org

Remember to get the bass treble pattern going with muting.

Howie Day? Cool, ill check it out.
I do have an issue with Strumming, more obvious strumming patterns are ok, Crash, LLD, Granny, Grey Street but songs like Nancies, Say goodbye and even DDTW strumming does my head in!

Any tips?

I'm at work right now so can't grab my guitar. The strumming pattern is similar to Say Goodbye. I don't know if this makes any sense but I believe it is:

1 2 3 and 4 e and a

which is 1/4 note, 1/4 note, 2 1/8 notes and 4 1/16 notes.

If I remember right I play it like

1(bass string or for example 5 or A) 2(then the 78 part) 3 (same as 1) and (same as 2) 4 e and a (all same as 2)

When your playing the 78 part I am also muting the D string and sometimes the A string.

Not 100% sure on this, but this is the best I can do until I can get my guitar. But it should be close.

Ive done allot of that yeah, but its not even a case of not being able to hear the pattern, just not being able get it down myself if you know what i mean? :?
I mean, take DDTW, when you listen to Storytellers its sounds pretty simple, but getting it down? Damn!

Pat or kanter should have one on here somewhere.

Which part doesn't make sense?

If you didnt understand the 1, 2, 3 and, 4 e and a

That is just a way to count out the rhythym

For example: if it is in 4/4 time which means 4 beats per measure and the 1/4 note gets the beat

So if you counted out 4 1/4 notes you would say:

1,2,3,4

adding an and means you are doing 1/8 notes

doing e and a means 1/16 notes

Code: Select all

Ma- ry had a litt - le lamb
1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4
Here is an article that might explain it better:

To maybe make it easier, if you mute strings you will get a fuller sound.

Yeah ive been muting thats what i thought was making it weak! ha ha

Anyway, i just tried what you told me and yeah it kinda makes abit more sense now, especially the 1 2 3 part im still abit confused after that. But a good start, thanks so much!

Well just think about it every time you tap your foot that is 1 beat(assuming you are able to keep a beat :-)

So 1, 2, (3 and) is one tap of the foot or two notes are being played for 1 beat, (4 e & a) is one tap of the foot or 4 notes being played for 1 beat
