Help With Purchasing New Guitar
why is dmbtabs so fucking retarded about this. Someone will say, "I have $500 to spend on a guitar."
without fail the next reply will be, "Get this guitar, its $700."
Ok man, so you have $500, I'm sure you can get a used lower end Taylor for that.
I dont know if i'd buy a $500 Alvarez, I like alvarez cause there $350 guitars sound like a $800 guitar. but I noticed that the more expensive they get their sound and quality increase at a decreasing rate.
But i dont know much about $500 guitars, I am poor.

Why do people give us the vaguest Fing info. What's your price range?
Well, $500, give or take $100, but I can pay more.
Just tell us what you have to spend and what you want. Otherwise you are going to get a cluster fuck of responses.

I second that. both great choices in that range. I am a firm believer in buying the top of the line of what you can afford. Well, I know 500 wont get you the top of the line MK, but it'll be better than gettting the lowest end used martin.praisedave wrote:500... Michael Kelly

ok well sorry dude wut i was trying to say is that i would like to spend around 500 give BUT if there was something a that was amazingly good for its price but closer to 700 or 800, i can always save for it if its more worth it, i guess the only true way to solve this is just go play some guitars, i supposed its the only real way to pick a guitarcheckii wrote:my bad, let me change my comment then to:bassman462 wrote:i didnt say get this, he also said he could save up for more.checkii wrote:why is dmbtabs so fucking retarded about this. But ya, definately play some and see what you like. If you ask me a company is only as good as it's shittiest guitar. Just play a bunch of brands and explore more in teh ones you like.
But anytime you add $300 to the range of guitar you are looking at you will see drastic changes for the better. I say pick a price and stick with it or you will end up spending too much.

Yeah just go into a guitar store and play 20-30 different guitars. Narrow it down to 3-4 guitars you like and then go in another time and play longer. I just bought a guitar myself so I went through the same process.
Do your research online. Go to http://elderly.com/
You can sort through different models by price range to get a feel for brands have what guitars that meet your needs(cutaway, electric). They also have some of the lowest prices on the internet so you can use that as your offer for the guitar you pick
Keep an open mind. Don't just go for the name brands. As someone else mentioned Larivee's are awesome guitars but don't have the same recognition as the big boys. I also liked Guild too.
Higher price doesn't necessarily mean better guitar. Even though I was close on some other models, I still ended up going with a Martin. My price range was $1300-$1500. I ended up going with a $950 which I thought sounded the best.
Good luck!

ya i jsut played a friend's Alverez and i really like the sound and feel, but still i think im going to head over to the guitar shop today to try a few out and see wut i like, which leads me to another quest, since im going to be buying a more expensive guitar i was wondering about protecting my investment, ive heard about humidifiers but know almost nothing about, i live in northern IL and the humidity changed a lot from summer to winter here so will i prolly need one of those, and are there any other things i should consider to help keep my guitar in good shape

A humidifier/de-humidifier wouldn't hurt. I think on Martin's they generally recommend 40-55% humidity with temp in the 65-73 range.
Keep the guitar in it's case when you are not using it or will be gone for awhile. Which means you might want to buy a damp-it humidifier for the guitar.
I bought a room humidifier for around $30 at Target. Damp-it is around $15 depending on where you get it from.

I bought my Alvarez SD60SC without ever playing an alvarez. SaN Diego doesnt have much in the way of dealers. If you want a big brand name that's all you'll find here.T1nM4n wrote:ya i jsut played a friend's Alverez and i really like the sound and feel, but still i think im going to head over to the guitar shop today to try a few out and see wut i like, which leads me to another quest, since im going to be buying a more expensive guitar i was wondering about protecting my investment, ive heard about humidifiers but know almost nothing about, i live in northern IL and the humidity changed a lot from summer to winter here so will i prolly need one of those, and are there any other things i should consider to help keep my guitar in good shape
I ordered my alvarez online and love it.
