The Palm Mute

Unread post by CPTino3001 » Fri Aug 01, 2003 11:36 am

I'm tryin to rock out on my Les Paul, but I'm having problems palm mutting (sp?)...

I have the Dave style acoustic mute down, but I need advice on electric technique...

How to get a "sharp" vs "chunky" sound, etc...

Thanks...

personally I palm mute the same way on an electric.. sort of.. I just lay my hand on the bridge and slightly lay my hand down.. the more you lay your hand down, the "chunkier" of a sound you get.. GL

Is there any difference between laying your hand down on the bridge and laying your hand down on the strings?

sorry if that sounded harsh

but just go about it in a logical manner, there are certain degrees of muting depending upon how close your hand is to the bridge when you mute, just experiment with as many different positions and sounds as possible

I dont think I can palm mute easy/at all because of the way I hold my pic. I play with my thumb, middle and pointer and I cant get a good angle, Ive tried holding the pic the "right" way but it feels so weird that I end up dropping it or going back to my old way real quickly. I guess I should learn the other way but it feels too weird, I think its hindering my guitar playing but Ive played the other way for years, any pointers?
