been playing for a couple of months...im workin on lie in our graves and i keep screwing up when i have to strum just the one chord. i either miss the chord or hit the wrong one. i know daves hand is constantly moving even while hitting the single notes but i just cant seem to get it down. any help would be appreciated
also quite often the knuckle of my index finger hits the strings when im strumming. i dunno if im holding the pic wrong or if it is slightly common.
anyone who can help

Hitting the right strings comes with practice. the single note stuff comes from being able to hit the notes while muting what you dont need. You may be hitting your knuckle b/c you're trying to strum harder than necessary, but it depends, maybe just relax a little more.

I think you mean the single notes, not chords, right? i.e., the parts after the first D chord:
After the mute those notes are played with all down strokes, picking at the individual strings. You just gotta practice...
Code: Select all
E:-2--------x--------------------------
B:-3--------x--------------------------
G:-2--------x-----------2--------4--4--
D:-0--------x--0--2--4-----4-----2--2--
A:----4--2--x--------------------------
E:----------x-----------------3--------
I have not seen Dave play LIOG live but from what I have been finding is that he plays alot of songs with a half or full strum and only plays one string while muting the others. This style is a bitch to learn. If you want less "chuck" then only strum one or two strings around the string. A good guy to ask is "corona" if he is reading this he could give you some good advice. He was the one who confirmed for me that dave is muting while he playes thes single notes 4 to the 2 and so on after the D chord. practice practice and you will get it and it will be alot more relaxing to play it this way rather than picking each one.
