Lemme ask you all something...

Unread post by jkanter » Mon Aug 04, 2003 10:50 pm

I posted how I was going to be drinkin and jammin at Continental a couple hours before. Somoene asked, "You aren't bringing the Martin...are you?!?!?". Now, I understand when people get expensive guitars and stuff, they are very protective of them.

Now, I honestly like to ENJOY my guitar. I play it when I want to and kinda how I want to. I take good care of it. But I also try to make sure that if I wanna have fun playing guitar...I'll take it where it needs to be enjoyed by multiple people.

Would you guys bring your nice guitars to a concert? I know Elliot posted a pic of him and his guitar, a beautiful HD-35..right?, on the beach(posted it on the Bridge) and people asked how he could bring such an amazing guitar to a beach where it could get "ruined". I think you replied that you wanted to enjoy the guitar and play it whenever...right? Anyway, that's how I feel about it....what about you guys?

Course, DM3MD is compeltly different....ha

heh. yeah. if i had a DM3MD i wouldn't take it out for hanging out occasions. but i don't think that's what you're askin'.

i'd take my 414 out...it's about enjoying a guitar. that's why you bought it in the first place...to enjoy it, whenever you can as often as ya can, if you're that passionate about it. i pick up a guitar when i can, and if i'm able to take my guitar along to some place and know that i'll be able to play it, i most likely will.

yeah, taking care of it is all fine and dandy, otherwise you wouldn't have anything to play but some cracked wood and metal, but that comes second to playing the guitar and makin' sweet love to it. ;)

so uh, yep, enjoy the damn guitar. it's what it's there for. a lot of people get too caught up in the small stuff with guitars and they forget why they play in the first place. but hey, sucks to be them. :)

well when I go to the beach I take my shitty guitar because I want to enjoy my martin for the rest of my life and risking it once where I know it has a good change to get messed up by me being drunk or something isn't worth it. I know some people who are too protective of their guitars, not letting people play it or changing the way they play so that they won't scratch it with their pick.

I figure I play my martin all the time, but when I know it is going to be a situation where it is going to be in a hot car for a long time or somewhere where there is a good chance an accident can happen I take my shitty guitar because I can't afford to buy a martin in this one breaks.

Basically......... one time without it to save it for 1,000 more times is worth it. BUT DON'T CHANGE YOUR STYLE TO SAVE THE GUITAR!!

I guess that all depends if you are planning on reselling it. If its a guitar bought for an investment, then no I wouldn't take it on a hike. However if it is a guitar I play every day, then I obviously enjoy playing it.

Airline travel would cause me to take a beater.

Besides, knicks and dings give a guitar a helluva lot of character. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the most badass guitar in the world is Trigger, Willie Nelson's guitar.

holy crap, yes! see, I don't care about the guitar when it really comes down to it...it's just a tool. sure, it's a great guitar, and I love it, but I LOVE (not like love, like L-U-V) music!!! I love the stinkin' beach, so I take the guitar that I love to make music with the most. I don't think about it getting ruined. there's only so much that can happen so long as you're cautious. Heck, I was wading in the water while playing at some points. I want to enjoy the stinkin' thing and make music with it. My HD-35 is a wreck in many ways. It's got scratches and dents and humidity cracks and it's just all in all very well played, but you know, I love it like that! It still sounds the same! It's MY guitar as well! I know it inside and out. I just want to play it whenever and whereever. Amen.

oh yeah, I disagree with this...it's still just a guitar. I have little to no reverence for signature model acoustics...electric sigs I kinda (big kinda) dig because electric guitar is a lot more, what's the word, well, the sounds are so much more varied. I love my SRV strat for straight blues with a good beat. It just rocks out like none other. The Clapton strat is just amazing...it can go from being amazingly clean to dirty with the twist of a knob. those are two sigs I love. I'd get a clapton strat, but I still am kinda not into sigs, and I don't want two electric guitars that are both sig models, so here comes another post...

everyone had their own tastes, but Jared has made it very clear that it is a very special and personal need for him to have that guitar, and is very important to him, so I tease him...

Yeah, but you know what I'm saying. To me, that guitar would bea great guitar to chill with. I'd bring it places, but not to crazy places like beach. It would hold a special place to me becuase of my involvment with Dave Matthews Guitar stuff. I don't think so many people who just want a nice guitar should get it becuase there are few that it means that much too(hence people selling it, yeah the prices are great....and it's understandable..but it's a collectors guitar for hte most part). To me, I would take it places but not crazy really.

Now, as for finding it. I really believe that I will be able to when I can afford it. But right now, it's not feasable. True

i would never bring a guitar to a concert. not because im afraid of it breakin or anything, im just there to listen; not play... and besides, i always get annoyed by the people in the hotel rooms who feel they need to play all of the band's songs before they go seem them, i will never be that person...

Whoever said I was playing all DMB songs??? Of course I will be playing some....but the point is to go there and jam. I never said anything about, "Let's get together and see if we can cover DMB for hours!!!"
