I voted for Peter. Honestly, I've seen butch in concert MANY times and I have to admit that, although clearly an amazing musician, he doesn't do ALL that much for me. I think he complements the band GREATLY but in the end, the band is essentially the same without him.
Now, with Peter...certain things come into play. He has said in many interviews that he was there as a guiding light for the band. He does not regret leaving the band becuase his purpose was to teach Dave what he needed to know in order to "lead" the band. He taught dave how to use his voice....how to use the guitar along w/ a band...and how to keep everything together. Once Dave got all that down, it was just time for him to move on.
Listen to Peter's solo's.....They are amazing. They are soooo much better than Butch's. I guess it's all about personal opinion but to me..they are better. And I guess it really all comes down to my fav song(or top 3 fav)....Two Step. Listen to any 1992 Two Step w/ the Salsa Jam. One of my fav pieces of Music DMB ever played(minus Doobie Thing)....now listen to the Listener Supported Two Step. I think that Butch just takes it too slow. Slows things down waaaaaay to much and....in a way....contributes to the fact that DMB's music is growing more melow. Listen to Rapunzel from 1998 and now.....there ya go

You hit the nail on the head Kanter. I love Two Step w/ salsa jam, it's simply amazing. Peter did add a lot to the band back in his day, and everything felt more up tempo.
note: I haven't seen to many good pictures of Butch, does he look like Trey or was someone just pokin a little to much smot.
just kiddin.

Course the up-tempo thing could be the fact that the band is getting older. Dave was probably more of an up-tempo kind of guy when he was younger as opposed to now. Oh well, we'll get only grave-digger/SoL songs now
DAMN!!! ha

he can't be on the floor, can he? notice the shadow at the top...it comes off an angle off the background, which means that there's a connecting board/ceiling.
plus, notice how the wire dangles down. if it was on the floor, the wire would have most likely slipped backwards off the front of the fan, instead of hanging the way it is.
and you know what?
we're debating over a picture. whoo!
