technical recording question

whats up guys, i just have a quick question. im using cool edit to record. every time i lay down a track, and then try to lay down another track over it, the second track starts out in time with the first, but by the end of the song the second track is way behind. it is like there is some kind of delay on the playback of the first track in my headphones or something. any suggestions. thanks ben

well, if you hold right click on the block, you can move them around

actually I had that same problem using cool edit. i really didn't find a way to fix it then, so i recorded the audio into an old cakewalk pro 6.0 (the first one with audio lol) then i imported it into cool edit to mix.

i might be able to fix it now that i know some more but i dunt have the program anymore. the problem is with the hardware buffer size and the cpu-and-hard drive speeds. cool edit is just horribly coded imo, and can't handle it. but it is the best shareware mixing program u cood find prolly

yah but when u are tracking, you hear the latency and it's not always constant. that means the two seperate track will be incredibly out of time, it drove me nuts the first time i tried to use it and wasted a whole recording night :/

you need to make sure your latency is at it's very lowest... or their will be that delay. But also make sure everything is happening in real time, that could slow you up. Also in recording studios they use some sort of metronome to keep the beat... even though you think you are playing in beat with the song you may be off. That is my two cents... love ya
