it more the timing really. that is, the timing between my right hand and left hand. since i do have about a year and a half of playing time under my belt the stretching isnt to tough. would you guys that can play alot of his stuff say that learning Dave's riffs have helped make you more well rounded at playing guitar?

Yeah they make your fingers a bunch stronger. I've heard someone say to work on songs like satellite and #34 every day to help with playing a bunch of Dave stuff and I couldn't agree more. My advice to you is to maybe take a day or two off of So Much to Say work on some other songs, especially satellite if you can play it. And if you don't think you can just give it a try I bet you can make it sound similar, its a lot like so much to say as far as the time goes. I'd say Dave's songs help in a lot of areas, especially creativity and muting. And they help get your right hand a lot more coordinated since so much of his stuff isn't just strumming open chords.

--3/5---------------------x-x-x-x----
D U D U
and all the little ants are marching..
Yeah, I found that helped a lot too. Also, I think it's good to remember that Dave is obsessed with rythmic guitar playing so his right hand is always moving.Bauer wrote:When I first began to play this song I would always just play the notes as if it were a riff. But after watching some videos, I realized that Dave almost plays chords and strums as he is hitting these notes. I tried this and it helped alot
So when you play something like SMTS, don't think of it as just hitting the notes that are tabbed. Those are just the ones that you happen to hit as your hand wildly flails around.
I've been playing SMTS for a while and every time I think I own it, I listen to a live version of Dave playing and cry.
