Unread post by sk8r » Tue Mar 08, 2005 7:20 pm

Lately i have been looking more deeply into dave's lyrics....Does anyone know anything about where he likes to write or whether he writes anywhere, or how he goes about his songwriting ad far as sitting down and writing full songs or whatnot..anything about how he writes

hard to say, some songs were prolly writen very quickly for instance between mid 91 and 92 dave wrote like 30 some odd songs. but other songs, even newer ones have been marinating in there for years. bartender was originally leave me praying, then weight of the world, then finally bartender. starting in 97 released in 2002... others like grace is gone was released in 2002, but theres an ollld show from trax in 92, he teases GIG, not really, but basically just plays the main chords to it. so its seems that riff was in his head a long time, because as we know of dave, when hes randomly picking up on stage usually its another song of his, or atleast something hes worked on. so it seems dave worked on what became grace is gone back in 92, left it, and came back later. interesting dont ya think?

he uses his family as influences alot these days. And weed.

yeah you have to remember dave's been through quite a bit of shit which gives him some experiences to draw thoughts from. not to mention the drugs those help too.

and also think about this.. not every song dave's written is something we hear and see lol. honestly dave probably has 100s of songs he's written down and never put to music or expanded upon.. actually id wager the number is much higher than that

not saying you or anyone else expects this but you have to remember that not everything you write down is going to be good for music or an instant classic even in your mind.. you could write 10 songs before finding one that calls to you to be put to guitar and then works out to sound decent

I love it when he writes about his children. I know only a few songs like Butterfly and WAYG can be traced directly to his children, but other songs, particularly from Some Devil reflect that also.

Agreed

Rivers Cuomo from weezer had over 400 written songs not heard and i heard that a few years ago...maybe a weak example but an example nonetheless
