Yup. Just to confirm; this is how I do it - middle finger hits the second fret on the high E to mimic the Tim fill. Hope this helps!Roastbeef wrote:Hmm. Well, I don't have my guitar in front of me so I'm trying to visualize this, but I think I do use the middle finger to hit the second fret on the high E. I'm blessed with long-ass monkey fingers so maybe it's easier for me...JaDaRu wrote:Roastbeef: I'm not getting what you wrote about the 2p0 pulloffs during the boy's dream part. I don't think that if I keep that position (the one you wrote out) with my middle finger reaching the second fret of the high e.

Timmy uses fingers 4 and 5 to play the 4 and 5 on the G and B strings, as usual, and uses his first finger to do the pull off of the second fret E string, and the third finger to pull off from the fourth fret of the E string.Roastbeef wrote:Yup. I can't believe that we would lie in our graves wondering if we had spent our living days well, and I can't believe that we would lie in our graves dreaming of things that we might have been...

I'm just curious why simply lifting removing finger 4 makes such a difference in my ability to sustain throughout the song. I realize that its added stretch to keep it down, but its only one finger and everything else remains the same. Lifting that finger has made all the difference; before I could hardly make it through two verses and a chorus, now I could go on forever (not promising any quality or anything, but you get the idea). Any thoughts?

Actually, in the part you're talking about (alternate verse) what Dave does is he replaces that third finger position with the fourth finger, so you are only using fingers one, three and four the whole time, and probably lets the high e string ring, so that note isn't missing. like this ...JaDaRu wrote:I'm just curious why simply lifting removing finger 4 makes such a difference in my ability to sustain throughout the song. Code: Select all
Verse Substitute
(Use this if your hand starts to hurt from the stretch, as Dave's sometimes does,
after the second or even first verse. You can also
let the open high E string ring for a fuller sound)
E|-------------------------------------------------------|
B|----x------x------x------x------x------x------x------x-|
G|----4------4------4------4------4------4------4------4-| <-- 4
D|----2------2------x------x------2------2------x------x-| <-- 1
A|-4------0------2---------2------x---0------2---------2-|
E|----------------------0------4--------------------0----|
3 1 3 1
