About 5 years... I started playing in 6th grade where they taught us how to play in school. The girls chose violins, the guys chose cellos, so I picked up a cello. I continued to play with the orchestra in middle school, then the high school orchestra, and now I'm a senior in college. Still haven't had a private lesson!
