Go to this site, looks like it has 6-7 articles to help get you going on scales and modes.

I would seriously just save some money and get guitar lessons, they are so worth it. I've only been taking them for like a month and have alreadys learned so much. My guitar instructors amazes me with all the stuff he can do and how much he knows about music.

? ha.

Anyway, yes, lessons are the way to go. I jammed out to Jimi Thing for about 5 minutes at the end of my lesson with my teacher.

I'm not really sure what you're struggling with. You want to know how to use scales? Do you not know how to play/practice them?
There's a ton of information already out there that's written by more experienced musicians. I don't see why you need one of us to hold your hand. I'm not being a dick here I just don't understand what you need help with and why you can't use the bounty of info on the internet.

teoria is helpful but if he doesnt know anything about music in the first place and doesnt place piano it may be kind of tough to relate to the guitar on his own. id definately look for lessons, it is surely worth it.

I just read through it, and I'll give it a try asap! Looks pretty sweet though.
