Need Timmy fills for an upcoming show I'm doing

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Need Timmy fills for an upcoming show I'm doing

Unread post by Adam614ce » Wed Jul 23, 2003 6:49 pm

Hey. Long time reader, first time poster. Friday, August 1st, a friend and I are playing at a local coffee shop. We have to have around 3 hours of music. We have about 8 originals. Once we've played all the original stuff, we'll do dave covers for the remaining time. I already know alot of Timmy's fills for some of Dave's songs, but I need some help with some.

Here are the songs I need help on:

-The Stone (In the recording I have,Timmy is playing some chords during the verse other than what is shown on this website)

-Tripping Billies (Mainly need help with the solos on this one. I've been listening to the L@LC version of this. Yes the solos are insane, and I plan on improvising for them. But on the second Tim solo, he plays around 6 descending notes before going into a fast run. I'd like to play those descending notes/chords)

-Dancing Nancies ( on L@LC, after Dave sings "Look up at the sky", the part that follows, dave is playin the chord progression, and it seems that Tim is finger picking one chord the entire time during this part. What chord is it? Also, an idea of what scale Tim uses on the outro solo would help me for improvisation)

I believe this is it. If there are any more, I'll add them. Thanks for all your help!

Code: Select all

Tripping Billies start of Tim's solo #2

E:---------------------------
B:---------------7--6--5--5--
G:-6--5--4--4----7--6--5--5--
D:-7--6--5--5----0--0--0--0--
A:-0--0--0--0----------------
E:---------------------------
That's the best I can do for Billies...

On Nancies, Tim is playing just a Harmonic Minor scale out of G - I find the Hungarian Minor works just as well.
Here's a site where you can view that scale

Code: Select all

Dancing Nancies "Look up at the sky"
Just try different picking arrangements with these two chords, sans the high E string if you'd like

E:-0-------0--
B:-7-------0--
G:-7-------6--
D:-7-------7--
A:------------
E:------------
As for The Stone, which recording is it? Maybe if I get the same copy I can try to tab it out for ya. If not, enjoy the gig!

Turns out we aren't going to do Tripping Billies. We just don't sound "tight" enough on it. Mainly the verse. I notice Tim plays alternate chords than Dave on the verse on L@LC.

Anyways.

The Stone. I got it off of Kazaa. Says its from Storytellers. Thanks.

Looks like were gonna be doing Jimi Thing now. I can play the whole song as far as chords go, and can do the small Tim fills during the verse. What scale would everyone recommend using as far as the main solo goes? Thanks for all of your help.

For a verse solo:

1, 2, 3b, 3, 5, 6, 7b in E.

I couldn't find the scale anywhere but that's usually what I solo out of..

Ok, here's what the setlist will most likely be (not in this specific order though):

Pantala into Lie in our graves
Say Goodbye
Dancing Nancies
Crash
#41
Bartender into Don't Drink the Water
Jimi Thing
Lover Lay Down

And possibly The Space Between and Where are you going

We'll be playing these songs, in addition to 6 originals we have.
Thanks for all your help.

don't put space between or where are you going, please!

and don't end with lover lay down, that would be oh so boring... i think bartender into DDTW would be a good thing to end with
