i bought some much needed Elixers today, and i was ever so excited getting ready to put them on. what happens with the first E string? it snaps. i barely turn it, and snap-o. even worse, i didnt bother with the receipt at the shop, and not all of them recognize me, so i dunno if i'll get to return it.
so right now i have zero strings on my guitar, and that bites.

Gcomm....I know you said you wear out Martin SP's too much......but what do you think of their sound??? I personally believe that my D-16RGT sounds BEST with Martin SP Strings on them. And what do you think of the SP+'s??? You've been bashing coated strings so I'm interested to hear what you have to say about Martin coated strings. I just got a set and put em on and they sound great....but they were a ridiculous $17(I guess it's becuase I got em in Sam Ash in Mid-town NY.....DAMN NY...WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE THE BEST CITY IN THE COUNTRY YET SO FUCKING EXPENSIVE!!!)....back to my post....thoughts?

yep. best tone. I find the elixirs are a little dull on the bass notes and a little tinny on the highs and and the mids a bit too bright for my taste. The D'addarios just seem to sound better all the way thru. so its not just me that thinks this right?
not at all, I completely agree with you, I'm all about standard strings, no coating for me, it's the most well rounded sound. sure, you have to change them more often, but they just sound better.
I can't believe it. I actually agree with gcom on something. I wasn't all that impressed with Elixers when I tried them. They never sounded "new", just kinda blah. Less sqeaking was nice, but I like the D'addarios much better, especially considering the price difference. I can change strings in 10 minutes so it's not a big deal to do that every month or two...

I've also heard that a lot of people have had Elixers break. That should not happen considering the cost. I've never broken an acoustic string except for a high G on my 12 string...

I don't think I've tried Martin's coated strings on my guitars. I've played them in stores and they're not awful at all, but I like regular strings better. Personally, I thought that the martin SP's sounded pretty good. I prefer D'addario's, but Martin SP's are pretty stinking close. The biggest reason I don't even think to use them is because I wear them out in about two days. probably my second choice.
