General question about two chords....mainly for jkanter...

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

General question about two chords....mainly for jkanter...

Unread post by billywestom » Fri Jul 25, 2003 1:54 pm

On most of the tabs for songs, the standard chords for dave seem like they are missing notes. For example:

A: xx222x

E: x221xx

Does dave really not hit the open notes, like the open A and high E strings for the A chord, and all the open strings for the E chord? How do you tell by watching the videos? I'm not that worried about it, I am just curious.

Honestly, I'm not fully positive if he hits those notes. I'm assuming that those things are just distinguised by the player. If you play an A chord...your usually going to hit that open A string unless you REALLY don't want to. As for what Dave does, eh, not really sure....I guess it depends on the song. I just put down what he frets(in those cases I guess)

the root note's a pretty serious thing to lift out...like that E form would be more of a B the way it's tabbed when it's really meant to be an E

ok then.....if any of you want to go through all my tabs and leave me a PM with tabs that I left the root note out....I'll go change it.

I guess one way you could look at it is if he plays the A chord by barring the fret with his first finger, then the open E pretty much CANT ring, just because of the placement of the hand. the other way, with fingers 1,2,3, that note probably rings

Well, I know I'm new here, but I can barre the A chord with my index finger and get the high E to ring. I'm sure if I can do it, Dave can do it...

yeah the low A and Low E of these chords are played in 90% of the cases I'm sure. I really doesn't hurt to play the extra notes - ya know, the standard chords. but with Dave is not all about the notes but the manner in which they're played. percussive slapps, palm muting or what have you.
good, and you?
