for the ladies...

This is the place to talk about guitar playing not done by Dave! Topics about techniques, styles, theory, and other guitarists go here.

Damn, I forgot all about tears in heaven. If your girl plays guitar, have her play the billy joel part or vice versa and, lordy lordy! the guitar orgy will only go up from there. Or should I say down?
If you want quiet fingerpicking, Cat stevens songs like the wind, katmandu, and moonshadow are perfect.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Four words to start off: Here comes the sun.
Good as an opener, a closer, or an encore, it never fails to impress. Its less common then songs like blackbird or wish you were here because everybody knows how to play them.
The sound of silence is another oldie but goodie that gets the juices flowing, especially if you know all the words. (I always forget them. damn it all!)
I always play secret agent man just to get the steamy mood right.
Once the mood is set, its time for the meat. Nights in white satin rocks out, as does black by PJ.
Dave tunes depend on the circumstances. If the lady is a good friend, Say Goodbye as an opener might seem like a good choice but it is way too obvious. Crash is so much better. If its a girlfriend, Lover Lay Down and Let You Down are risky, but very useful if you can pull them off. If you're guitar skills are on the line, The Stone might be alright, but it is a little two angry for a love scene.
Jimi Thing-->WWBOM is perfect because it makes you look good and is happier. I always lover Two Step as a closer because it also looks hard, but I is the perfect blend of mystical dave and guitar savvy dave.
I find Two Step hard to sing. I mean I can't hit those notes strongly enough to make it sound decent. maybe I should practice more :? :o
but yeah, knowing what songs to play and when to play them is key if your playing to entertain company at a party or whatever. and key if you want to "impress" a certain somebody. I'm still too shy to sing in front of people. I'm embarrassed to sing when poeple are watching, I can feel there eyes on me. something I must get over. in other words, confidence also plays a factor the "reaction" you recieve. I'm listening to Sucker by John Mayer right now, and I'm thinkin, Damn I wish I could play that tune. so nice. impressive. might print out the tab right now. :o
good, and you?

Don't worry about your own singing ability. Even if you can barely sing to save your life (Like me!), if your guitar playing is good it does not matter. I played and sang PNP-->Ants Marching at an open mike concert at a retreat I went to a few weeks ago. Not only did my voice crack, but I forgot the entire scatting part, so I just blabbered away like a drunken fool about cats and all my friends and sweet tooth. the audience applauded wildly. I got the same reaction when I played dancing nancies a few songs later. I sang the falling out of a world of lies part twice before I remembered the I am who I am who am I part. My point is, just sing your heart out and play your heart out. 9 out of 10 times the audience will appreciate it.
