Crash Into Me

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

That's all great advice, listen to Carter's piece on the ride cymbal at the very beginning of this song on Listener Supported, it goes right along with the strumming. Just try to strum the same time he hits the ride cymbal.

trippin6strings wrote:Crash, IMO, is one of those delicate songs. you can jam out billies n jimmi thing with ur own percussive styles n such and its still gonna sound right, but for me when it comes to crash, i just gotta focus.

Its important to pay attention to each note hit and their timing cuz between the airy strumming and the changing bass notes, u dont wanna leave any gaps. its a sweet song so u gotta play it like the guitar as tender woman and theres no room for fucking up hehe...

Like unifaller said, take a step away from the song (or any song giving you trouble) and the few days break will help rid u of any habbits u need to break and soon enough, with some practice it will just click.

And dont think its pathetic to ask about crash, or any dave song for that matter (dave is an artist and mastering any work of art deserves your pain and patience). we've all been there, soon enough you'll blow urself away n get over that mountain, of course theres always a bigger fucker standing right behind it hehe, peace....
awesome advice

i have never paid attention to upstroke, downstroke i think that shit is stupid in my opinion, people run into trouble when they over analyze the song listen to it, play it, then practice it until its right

This may just be me so please dont hammer me for it. I would listen to the song and "hear" the strumming pattern. I think its pretty distinctive in Crash. Then i would close my eyes , hum the strumming and just imagine your hand doing the strumming. This may sound rediculous but it genuinly works for me. I used this for LLD and Granny too. Hope it helps, if not, ignore me! :D

Yeah, that whole upstroke/downstroke business is a sham. Just strum it however it comes naturally to you. The most important part of this song is the bass notes. Just play those in the correct time and worry about strumming once you can get the bass notes down. Once you get the bass notes, work on the strumming.

Bass notes on 1, and of 3.
Strumming on the 2 +a3, 4e+a

Simple 16th notes pattern

OK, when one plays the open A string bass note, do you follow that with strumming the 5-4-2 chord three times or just once?

Was playing I'll Back You Up ----> Crash Into Me and it sounded really nice. Just thought I would throw that one out there for anyone interested in trying it.

End on IBYU on..

E:---------------
B:---------------
G:---------------
D:-2~~~~~/4------
A:------------2--
E:---------------

And you're pretty much set up to start Crash Into Me..leaving your finger on the D string.
