You Never Know Tab
I was wondering if anyone has seen a GOOD tab of You Never Know. I've seen a couple online.. but one was nowhere close, and another one had the bass notes right but that's it.
Thanks
Thanks

ok, this is a way to play it for standard tuning, but dave plays it with a weird combo. of strings.... its tuned up to a B, like a baritone but and octave higher, if u want the tuning and tab for that one, let me know and ill post it here

Thanks alot. That would be great if you didn't mind posting the alternate tuning
altenate tuning tab
Ok...here's the deal...it's tuned UP to B...so it's an octave higher than a baritone...so you can either tune up and fuck with your strings...OR Capo at the 7th fret...BUT...unless you have a cutaway...the verse is damn near impossible to play capoed at 7...but you can still do the rest of the song just fine...

During the 2nd Bridge, you play Progression 1 once more than you do the first time, before going to Progression 2 when he sings “I find it hard to explain…” and you continue with that progression as they jam, and he sings “I think I can…” then on “Dream little daring” you go to Progression 3 and end the song with the Verse Riff 2.
I understand that the beginning verse riff is not exact. I am hearing a slide from 5/7 on the A string towards the end of that riff…but I can’t figure out how to play it and slide the 7/5 on the B string at the same time.

Hey I just registered but I'm not a newbie to boards or tabbing I'm Joe's friend PJ..those are my YNK tabs(thanks Joe
)...
Umm yeah you actually need to string your guitar differently..I forget exactly how.. I can dig around and find it if anyone is interested...and no it's not played on a 12-string, I can see that you may hear that maybe because of the high notes that are hit, but that is because the guitar is tuned UP to B...
Also, since I sent those tabs to Joe many months ago, I've aquired many videos of YNK live and there are some nuances with that second tab that Joe posted..I can post the newest tab I have if anyone is interested...Peace all... ~PJ

Man I've been waiting for a good tab for this song since I heard it in PA earlier this year. I got the first one down but since I have no idea how to tune my guitar in any other way than the standard, I can't try out the second one. I've never had lessons and pretty much rely soley on the internet for teaching myself to play, but I've never really bothered with learning how to tune differently. I have a guitar tuner and if someone could tell me exactly what to do to tune my guitar up to B I'd be much obliged...
This is how to tune your guitar UP to B:
Right from Dave Koon (who KNOWS what he is talking about) of the DMCB:
"Dave has tuned one of his acoustic guitars UP a 5th (to B), just like his baritone (1-b 2-f# 3-d 4-a 5-e 6-b) but an octive higher--like putting a capo on the 12th fret of a bari.
To achive this, you'll want to get a set of extra-light acoustic strings (EJ-15s from D'Addario are what Iused), as well as an addition 2nd string (what would normally be the "b" on a standard tuned guitar. Then, string the guitar like this: Put the 5th string from the pack
where the 6th string should be, the 4th string in place of the 5th, the 3rd in place of the 4th, and so on, until there's no string for the 1st, but then comes the additional 2nd string...put it in place of the 1st string. THEN, you tune the 6th-2nd stings UP a whole step higher than they would be in a normal situation, if they were in the right place. So, instead of the usual, standard 440 A that the 5th string would be (which is now the 6th string), you tune it UP to a B. Do the rest of the strings like this (6-b 5-e 4-a 3-d
2-f#) and then tune the "additional 2nd string" to it's usual tension--a B. You end up with the You Never Know tuning(1-b 2-f# 3-d 4-a 5-e 6-b)---at least as far as I can tell. I've been over and over this, watching footage of him playing the song, seeing every single section with his fingers plain as day. If Monk reads this and I'm wrong, do let me know. Hope this helps..."
