So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Billies help getting faster

Unread post by mlb1399 » Sat Feb 19, 2005 1:57 pm

Alright, I have been working on the verse for about 2 weeks and am trying to figure out more effecient hand position to get the speed up to dave's speed.

Code: Select all

E:--------------------------------
B:---------------------------------
G:----6--4/--0----7------4/5-------
D:----2--2---0----7-------------9--
A:--------------3/5-------------9--
E:-5------------------8~~~~~--5/7--
   3 (2) (1) 4 (1) (1)

E:---------------------------
B:---------------------------
G:----6--4/--0----7---2---4--
D:----2--2---0----7---x---x--
A:--------------3/5---x---x--
E:-5------------------2---3--
   3 (2) (1)
When you do the 3-5 slide and then 577 power chord then playing the C or 8 . So when you go to do the 4 to 5 slide are you barring the 4th fret then sliding so that way you can do the 5 to 7 slide and then the B5?

try using a capo to get up to the smaller frets which require less stretching. Then, as you get more proficient, lower the capo down to nothing.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

That's a really good suggestion. A lot of those stretches can do more harm than good when you're first starting out.

Try a capo on the fourth or the fifth fret for starters.

Instead of doing the 8 on the E string I have been hitting the 3 on the A string with my index and the 4 to 5 slide with my ring finger which keeps my index in position to do it faster.

Just work on it, I still don't have it down perfectly, but it starts to sound better after you just trust yourself and sing to it.

I do the same when performing solo or with my guitarist, exept to get a fuller sound I make a x354xx chord and hammer on to x355xx. I can play it both ways but I feel like when playing solo the fuller sound from the power chord makes for a....... fuller sound.

Just stretch it. That's actually the easiest way to play it, at least for me. I used to play the C on the A string too, but after stretching it once or twice, I found it to be the most proficient.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

True, it's really hard and it's probably just going to take a lot of patience to play it. I have been on a plateau of almost being able to make it sound good forever. Just devote like on whole day to working on it and then don't play it for a couple day, then maybe you'll have it.
