Cause IM Tripping Billies....

Unread post by jellyfish » Sun Feb 13, 2005 6:52 pm

OK Guys, Time to grill me. I have a little performance coming up and have never played Tripping Billies before. I have screwed around on stage with it but never really played the whole song. Anyway, I will be this week and want to know how it sounds. I figure you guys are pretty honest when it comes to critiqing...so lets hear it.

Unfortunately, My battery had worn out of my only acoustic/electric. I am using a Mitchell acoustic with Martin Marquis and an shitty ol' mic. I know the quality sucks but I think you can get the gist of it.

NO, I wont dare sing a Dave song. I will only sing my originals. Which I will be posting shortly. (Lot's of reverb) Im not proud of my voice so I usually don't sing too much.

Intro is a off but starts off well and the verse is missing the most important part, the slides. I'd recommend trying out some coated strings too, the string squeeks are pretty annoying.

I think it sounds pretty solid, I also agree the strings are a bit distracting though.

Sorry about the strings. I advised you, the recording is not great. My normal guitar with new elixirs is without a battery & Im too stoned to go get one. IM playing my mitchell with 2 month old strings. BUt, Thanks for the comments.

The intro is hit or miss for me.

it was good. The recording was funny. It sounds like there is someone dropping paper in the background or something.

my advice for you is: start off singing man!
even if you think it'll sound bad, do it and post a cover of Dave. I know some people tend to be harsh with criticism, but some of us really try to help and be constructive so that people can improve.

by the way, the nature intro sounded good to me, it was played pretty flawless, though dave plays it with a slightly different timing of the chords

Thanks folks for the critique. Im not too worried to play this after hearing your comments. Even better is that Im playing this song in a bar where maybe 3 people might know the nature intro and 5 might know the song well enough to know if I Fock it up.

So the gist is the intro timing is a bit off. Like I siad earlier, It's hit or miss with me. I usually have to hear it then play it to retain the rythym in my head.
