I'de appriciate any insight anyone has...
playing an electric and acoustic is so different...the strumming is the biggest thing. with acoustic, you can be a lot more heavyhanded and percussive, with electric, you can, but the end result out of the amp is mud. so lightening your touch is probably the best bet. electric, atleast in my opinion, is a finesse instrument. if you're playing metal, I guess not, but other than that, electric's all about finesse with the ability to explode if need be. it's a lot less forgiving than acoustic...you gotta baby it a bit.

someone said heavier guage strings, that's a good call too, .11's are great, you get a killer tone. Strat's help too...

personally, I dig distortion in a sense, but I like it natural, as in tube amps turned up just enough to start breaking up. the best pedal I've found to do this is the Full Tone Full Drive 2. That pedal is pretty tight...it's got the tubescreamer mod and a seperate boost switch to kick it up yet another step, and it's totally clean when not engaged...no color in this pedal. but I use my fender super reverb typically set at around 2 or 3 to get a killer round, clean sound, then I'll kick in my full tone clean boost to get natural drive, or the full drive if I really want to kick someone in the face. it's good stuff! I love electric...I've totally sold out to it.

...he does use effects other than distortion...

He has a DigiTech Whammy and a Tremolo unit, but I'm not sure what model...That's all I've been able to find out thus far, although without effects he is still an awsome guitarist, the stuff he does with the feedback is amazing...

Me and CP can attest to the fact that he is pretty damn sweet cuz we saw him at Lollapalooza. He also has a good stage presence cuz he does some cool stuff while playing. He has pretty good rhythm too cuz he managed to strum a few chords then puts his right hand up in there air, then plays a few chords again and repeats. Pretty simple but he made it look cool IMO

Tom Morello is an increadible guitrist, he just chooses not to show it all the time which is one of the best things about him, if you want to hear him go off then download Take the Power Back by RATM and youll hear him show off.
