best sound from a PA?

Unread post by freshead16 » Fri Feb 11, 2005 7:46 pm

hey everyone, i was just wondering the way that i can get the best sound possible from my system. I messed around with some stuff on the PA head and got my vocals sounding nice but i find the guitar to be lacking. I didnt know if i need some type of equalizer or something? My PA head is a yamaha EMX 66m and im playing through peavey PR15s. I cant really describe the sound im getting out of it with the guitar but im pretty sure it can get better. so if you guys have any ideas for additional equipment or tweaking adjustments let me know. thanks much

well tweaking the EQ can do alot if something really bad sticks out. I don't know what pickup system you are using, so I can't really help you there. A pre-amp and a DI could help as well, but we need more info about your pickup first-

thats a crazy amount of money though for a college student. ahah. do a lot of people usually run their guitars through things like that or just straight into the mixer like ive been doing? I dont know, the sound just sounds kind of hollow and not very blended that im getting out of my system from the guitar and id like to be able to adjust that somehow. but thanks for the idea. maybe down the road when i can get a hold of alittle more money.

DI boxes don't have anything to do with the tone of your guitar. you don't need it to make your guitar sound better plugged in. play with the EQ and add a touch of reverb and there you go

from what i know..
plugging your guitar straight into the board without a preamp will make it sound like crap because its not the correct kind of signal for a mixer

if you were to plug the same guitar into the di, then into the board, thus going through the mic pre, youwould get a much better sound

please correct me if im wrong

the preamp is on the guitar...that little box on the side?....DI's are only useful if you have a long run to a mixer. they reduce the possiblity of noise through that long run. that's it.
