Ants!!!

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Ants!!!

Unread post by Teego Time » Thu Feb 10, 2005 8:55 pm

Alright, I think I wanna do ants for my talent show bit for at least one of my songs. And I was thinking since I'm doing this solo, I'll want to give it a more full feel.

Anyways, I was listening to the D&T version, and I noticed that it sounded a bit different.

Code: Select all

Verse

E-2--x-x-x-----------------3--x-x-x-----------------
B-3--x-x-x-----------------0--x-x-x-----------------
G-2--x-x-x-----------------0--x-x-x-----------------
D-0--x-x-x------4-----4-0--0--x-x-x------5-----5\7--
A-----------4\5---4\5------2---------4\5---4\5------
E--------------------------3------------------------
            (2) 1 (2) 1 (1) 2 (1) (2)
Sounded more like:

Code: Select all

Verse

E-2--x-x-x-----------------3--x-x-x-----------------
B-3--x-x-x-----------------0--x-x-x-----------------
G-2--x-x-x-----------------0--x-x-x-----------------
D-0--x-x-x------4-----4-0--0--x-x-x------5-----5-0--
A-----------4\5-5-4\5-5----2---------4\5-5-4\5-5----
E-----------x---x-x---x----3---------x---x-x---x------
            (2) 1 (2) 1 (1) 2 (1) (2)
I dunno, try it out. Hell even if it isn't how Dave plays it, it might add something.

Whatever, it'll just make it fuller.

actualy, from what I've seen, dave plays it 320003 more than 320033. I always play it 320033, though, because it sonds fuller and brighter.

I can't form that chord fast enough, but that's how its done on storytellers, and the only time I think I've seen it like that.

Keep also in mind that on L@LC dave and tim play the same part for the first verse.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Yeah, but there's definitely a muting sound going on as well.

Yeah, and its called percussive strumming. Do what you feel sounds best.

I always play my G that way, no matter what song. It was the way I was taught, and I just can't seem to break the habit. Like Ranting said, I think it sounds fuller and brighter. But doesn't Dave play the G the other way on all his songs? I know for sure he does on Big Eyed Fish, because of the FF DVD.
