man, that's some smooth playing. i can never get tired of that riff.
you know what would be funny? if you jumped up and started dancing. just out of the blue. maybe that can be a bonus featurette ;)

I got another quick question for all you. I'm deciding how I should go about putting the tabs on the DVD. I personally do not believe that the tabs sould be viewable through subtitles. Some people have expressed that option but personally I believe that is distracting and hard to read(on a TV). I think that the best way is really to print out the tabs from the computer and have them in front of you while watching the video. Also, how would you all suggest me putting the tabs on the actual DVD? Maybe just through menu's and you can read them on the DVD...just not while watching the video's??? SUGGESTIONS!!!! Thanks again for all the support everyone

EDIT: To make things easier on everyone....I had planned on having a hot button on all video's. What this means is that instead of having to go into menu's and stuff to switch angles(unless your remote has a dedicated angle button)....all you would have to do to switch angles is to press the SELECT button on your remote(the big one in between the up, down, left, right buttons). The problem is I can't do subtitles and that feature...anyone!?!?!?

hm...well putting them through menu's might be nifty. would be a lot easier. organize them the way you do now. as for while watching the video's, i'm not entirely sure. i know someone could come up with a better idea than anything i have right now, but seeing how much space you are using, it'd be hard to squeeze them in there. someone suggested making use of the space with the black boxes, i think, and that could work. just move the main video up to fill the space up top, and down at the bottom have the tab there, and it'd be cool if it would light up along as you were playing, but it'd be a lot of extra work.

or you could just not bother with that and leave the tabs in the menus, but try to do the light-up thing with just audio, which would save you the trouble of editing the tabs into the video themselves.

don't know! hehe.

otherwise, printing them might just have to be the job. ;)

Jared,
With the tabs, I would not put them in the same screen as the video portion for all the reasons you stated...distracting, crowded, etc.

What would be cool if you could have the tabs separately on the menu to pull them up all by themselves.....and have an audio button to hear that portion of the tab as you are looking at it if you want to...you could possibly just link it to the audio portion of the video that is already on the DVD (does that make sense?). It could be broken down tab section by tab section like you had on the DMBTabs vids.

If this linking is possible, then it should also possible listen to the trasnition from one tab section to the next as some people have asked about in the past.

also Jared, "cough" email me "cough"

hmm, this is a tough decision. i think subtitles would probably be a good idea, as long as it didnt take up too much space. if you think about it, most sections of songs are only the 6 lines thick. so maybe out of the entire screen, the tab would be at the bottom of the video, only taking up about an eighth of the screen. but in my opinion, the tabs should be somewhere on the dvd, like maybe under each song, you can choose to view the videos of each section, or to read the tab.

I have another idea. How about those "Dave's Style Lessons" on the FAQ page? Maybe you could put those descriptions as text on the DVD, or maybe even as an "Intro video" of you explaining that stuff ("dave chords", satellite style songs, crash chords, dave's standard chords, etc...)

i think as an Intro Video that'd be great, especially demonstrating each little tidbit on video. just reading it isn't going to help, since of course, there are all kinds of different learners.

Hey Billy...Did you know there was a feature you could use in phpBB to make your text bold??? No, ok....sorry then :) Well, as what you were saying...I fully plan to include those lessons on the DVD along with a video for certain ones(mainly muting). It's a really good idea though

Some thoughts about tablature on the DVD:

First, it's critical to include the tablature in some form.

Is it possible to 'toggle' views in a split screen on a DVD? For example, if you're showing two views on the screen, say the left hand and right hand, is it possible to toggle to a view that's left hand and tab, or right hand and tab? This may be an interesting option because a user could toggle based on the preference of what they want to see- maybe by clicking a button on a remote.

Here's another component related to tab that I would find tremendously useful. If the music could be 'mapped' to the tab, that would be awesome- especially for beginners. A lot of times beginning guitarists look at tab and they are unable to correlate it to a song. So, if for example as the song was being played, an arrow would move along the tab to show you how it flows, that would be useful. There are many ways to do this... the tab notation could be highlighted as the song is played, etc.

Having tab as a standalone on the DVD is good. Even better though is to tie it into the song in some real-time was that shows you exactly what portion of the tab is being played at a given time.

Just some thoughts.

So, about the Everyday videos....strummed or fingerpicked for the DVD?

and, oh yeah, for the songs in the different tunings (Raised B, Baritone, whatever) are you showing those in Standard only, since you are using that same martin?

I am pretty sure Everyday will be fingerpicked....which will also include a video on Dave's fingerpicking method. It just sounds better fingerpicked...but I have to see. As for Baritone songs, the only song not in standard is Space Between and I will be explaining that I am playing it in standard but Dave plays it in a different tuning.
