computer mic
computer mic
I just bought a mic to record with, and for whatever reason (mostly because I'm a tard) it won't work. How exactly do I get it to work so I can record?

We'll need more info about the mic. Is this really a computer mic, or is it a Condensor or Dynamic? If it is a computer mic, it should work by just plugging it into the mic port. Now the sound from your instrument will be not so hot, but that's another story. If it's a Condensor mic, you will need Phantom power which requires either a Mic Preamp or Mixer. You'll then have to run the Output to the computer's soundcard. Unless you have a specialized soundcard, you'll need an adaptor to make the 1/4" a 1/8" plug. You can get this for $4 at Radio Shack. If your mic is a Dynamic mic, you can probably get a pretty decent sound by running the mic out through the adaptor to the sound card, just make sure the mic cable is XLR on one end and 1/4" on the other. Hope that helps.
There should be recording options about what is recorded. It will have line in , mic, output sound or something like that and etc.
You have to check the input you have it in whether its line in or mic. It should say on the input jack which one it is. I'm not sure if that will work for what you have or not but it works with my stuff.
