i think theres a lil more of a science to it. one of my friends who is really good at playin metal (not my style but hes really good none the less) and i remember him mentioning that you cant just tap at any point on the neck, certain notes must be tapped at specific spots on the neck. a lil confusing but im sure theres ways of making sense of it...Kukini wrote:Hammer on, pull off, there ya go, tap.

You could also learn how to Cotton Pick:It is named for Merle Travis, a country guitarist who was one of the early developers of the style (Doc Watson was so impressed he named his son Merle).
The term “Travis picking” is used to describe a wide variety of fingerpicking styles, but generally it is a style of fingerpicking that involves a steady rhythm of bass notes played with the thumb while the 1st (index) and 2nd (middle) fingers play the melody on the treble notes (the higher strings).
Elizabeth "Libba" Cotten was Born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on January 5, 1895. She started playing her older brother's Banjo at the age of eight. She soon moved on to his guitar. She was self taught and played the guitar left-handed and upside-down:

Late in life, Cotten received many honors including: The National Endowment For The Arts National Heritage Fellowship Award in 1984, the same year she won a Grammy Award for Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording for "Elizabeth Cotten Live!" Recorded when she was 90 years old.
You said interesting and unique.

My friend who has been playing for 10 or so years is pretty good at tap, he explained it like that to me... "Hammer on, pull off". He also went on to say there's a lot of technique but just to learn my basic shit first before learning tap.trippin6strings wrote:i think theres a lil more of a science to it. one of my friends who is really good at playin metal (not my style but hes really good none the less) and i remember him mentioning that you cant just tap at any point on the neck, certain notes must be tapped at specific spots on the neck. a lil confusing but im sure theres ways of making sense of it...Kukini wrote:Hammer on, pull off, there ya go, tap.
But yea, it's pretty tough to make it sound good. He plays a lot of Satriani's tap songs, he's damn good to.
