the music of pink floyd wasn't inspired by drugs. only pre-saucerful of secrets, when barrett was in. barrett only lasted a few years.

Yeah. No drugs inspired Pink Floyd. You think Sid Barrett was the only one in Pink Floyd to use psycedelic drugs? He may have been the only one to do harder drugs, but they all certainly were feeling the effects of LSD and Psilocybin. Listen to the music, man. Those are psycedelic inspired sounds, no doubt about it.

you can create psycedelic sounds while not under the influence of a psycedelic drug, probably even more so. true, they have done lsd in their lifetime, but it wasn't based around their music, at least not the majority of it. here's an interniew with richard wright...

there's more info on pink floyd and drug use.. just do a google search.

take lsd just once and your life will be completly changed. to say that pink floyd was not influenced by drugs is just plain silly, its a life altering experience (lsd). i think if you look at what that interview doesnt say rather than what it does say you'll understand the difference between being inspired by drugs and being under the influence of drugs. i dont do drugs at the time being but had i never taken lsd, mushrooms, or smoked weed i would not be the person i am today or have the same interests. like i said, a trip is more than being on drugs, most of the time its an accute, eye opening experience that you take with you for the rest of your life. i think this interview also makes syd look like a small part of pink floyd and their music when in fact he had a great deal to do with their vision. im not saying that pink floyd was all about drugs, but that without any of them ever experimenting we probably would not have their unique syle of music that we do today...

what i'm trying to get at is they aren't inspired by drugs as much as people make them out to be. like i said, ofcourse they took psychedelic drugs in their lifetime. but they didn't base their life around taking trips. i've taken shrooms at the most 8 or 9 times. every time something new happened, different thoughts sparked. all the culminated thoughts and experiences while on shrooms basically changed the way i look at life. i surely see what your saying, and it's true, to an extent. wright said it himself, first making a general statement about pink floyd and drugs saying they didn't use. then a more specific statement directed toward himself, saying he personally can't play music while under the influence.
