So Damn Lucky (Hard)

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I love this song, espicially the one dave did on VH1 with ochestra baobob, with the bongos was sweet. The chorus and everything is allright but the bar 9 hammer 11 crap, like the main beat, that stuff is hard. Anybody else feel me on this..??

I didn't find that as hard as the rythym. The only obvious advice I can give you is practice the stretch on the 9-11 Hammer. I have a problem singing it cause of the rythym.

PM me if you want a clip. I'll sing it for you, but my voice is horrible.

Check out Pat's thread. He does a good video of it.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

I love this song, and I play it a lot. I'm not good at explaining rhythms and things like that though. It kind of just has to flow. I'd suggest playing along with the CD, or the Baobob clip.

Just practice the strumming at first to get the timing, mute the strings while strumming then try the hammer ons. I managed to pick this song up very quickly for some reason. The timing is key and being able to hammer on with two fingers is also important. With practice you'll get it.

Playing and singing along with a good acoustic solo recording of it helped me. Also, it helps to remember that the song is in 3/4, so if you accent the first note in the measure (the one with the hammer on), it might help with timing:

E:----------------------------
B:----------------------------
G:-9h11--9--11--9--11--9--11-
D:-9-------9--x----9--x----9--x---
A:-9h11--9--11--9--11--9--11--
E:-0-------0--0----0--0----0--0---

This also helps with singing because the lines tend to be divided into measures.

I'm probably not explaining this worth a damn, but I tried.

It was really hard for me for a long time and then one day it just clicked, I would just keep playing it.
