Elixirs question

Unread post by sbhanot » Mon Jul 21, 2003 4:27 pm

I just got exilir strings, and the coating seems to be coming off on the part over the sound hole (obviously due to playing) - is there a good way to clean this off without hurting the strings? Thanks!

how about never using them again...they suck.

oh yeah, I'm supposed to say something about that being my opinion, so in my humble, yet correct opinion, elixirs suck.

I mean, I really like them, and the lack of coating doesn't hurt the sound, but i just think it looks bad :-P Maybe just scrubbing them - I like Martin SP's a lot too - is the SP+ just like a longer lasting model or something?

ugh, thats terrible. putting down elixers for d'addarios? it's like turning down coke for piss. i hate d'addarios, but to each his own.
sbhanot, is it peeling so bad that it needs to be removed? mine peeled before, but only a little, so i took some tweezers to them.

I wouldn't worry about it. And yeah I know exactly what you're talking about. If anything it looks like you have been playing the shit out of the guitar which is a good thing IMO. Also if I remember correctly you can usually just notice the spots when looking down at the guitar, as you are playing for example. When looking at the strings head on, I don't think its as noticeable.

yeah, i have elixirs and i get the same appearance -- it doesn't really bother me though. i do plan on changing them pretty soon anyway, cause i think it's just an obvious sign of wear.
