singing q

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

singing q

sorry if this is the wrong forum, couldnt really tell which one to put it in but anyway. Ive been singing a lot more between learning some dave and getting into writing and one thing ive noticed latley is that after i finish up a song i'll feel really lightheaded, and if its a song that involves a lot of yelling or something, afterwards i wont be able to see straight for a good half minute. This didnt use to happen but since ive become more comfortable with my voice and able to hit the right notes, ive been getting more into going all out and not holding back when im feeling a song. im just wondering if this may be caused by doing something wrong, if i should be worried, or if its just all a part of the fun? thanks, peace...

its cause your prolly breathing wrong. breathe from your stomache, well, diaphram. your running out of air and that wont happen as much when you breathe from the diaphram. it is somewhat dangerous if you do this often. but your breathing wrong and not getting enough oxygen to your brain instead of out your mouth. breathe through the diaphram!

yes this breathing technique should apply to harmonicas and other instruments too. You'll feel dizzy if you dont breath properly.

yea ive been working on my breathing, i did a show with this girl whos got an amazing voice and she taught me somethings about filling my stomache with air (cuz i had no clue what or where my diaphram would be) and not just my lungs (something like that). she also said something about how she squeezes her cheeks (and damn does she have a nice ass) when singing to help nail notes when she really starts getting into it. i think im gonna keep looking for a singing coach, dont see what can go wrong with that, thanks guys

How would one go about learning these proper breathing techniques?

hard to say. I learned it from theatre, where you have to get your voice across a 1200 seat auditorium, while also being able to control your pitch and not running out of breathe. some learn it from vocal coaches, others from books or wherever else.

Voice lessons I guess. I'm thinking about taking some soon, I'll let you know how it goes.

You're lightheaded cause you're having it. I mean, you're lettin' it rip. That's cool. Unless you're going to star on Broadway, then who cares.

Getting lightheaded doing something you love is killer. Like being drunk of Dave.

Being drunk on Dave is how I went through college. ;-)

uh actually its not alright, if this guy wants to sing he needs to breathe right or else itll kill off a lot of brain cells and his singing wont be all that good. just for the fuck of it isnt a good reason to not learn to breath right.

Uh what?

Do you really think that this guy has a problem or something?

He's enjoying himself.

I mean, do you honestly believe that this person is unable to understand the concept of breathing while singing?

Who are you?

actually film is right, his lightheadedness is a direct result of improper breathing. what happens is he is probably taking large breaths and singing long notes when he screams, essentially holding his breath. because he is not breathing properly, he can't get rid of the CO2 that is buliding up in his blood stream and this simulates a state of hypoventilation. to compensate for this his body converts the built up CO2 to H+ and HCO3- and gives rise to a state of respiratory acidosis which can cause lightheadedness. film is right, you really don't want to do this too often, it's not healthy for your brain.

Thanks for looking out for me guys, i really appreciate it. i talked to a number of people, one being a singing coach (showed him my technique n all). he told me that i have the idea of the diaphram down, and that i have a unique singing voice, but as you guys mentioned he said that i was keeping each breathe in a lil too long and it was resulting in my brain getting a "natural buzz" that while it may feel cool, its only working against my natural singing voice. he told me that my problem wasnt anything too serious and that it seems to be improving as i practice my songs more and more so i'll just keep on practicing.
Another person i talked to was my doctor (whom also is a fellow musician, now how bout that) and he advised me that the main reason i was probably getting so "buzzed" was the coupling effect of getting lil oxygen to my brain, and my recent departure from using drugs. he told me that when my brain isnt recieving as much oxygen, it releases the same chemicals that it would when i get high. having a diminished tolerance to drugs, the "natural buzz" kicks my brain into what it believes is "being stoned" and that little buzz goes a long way when an ol junkie is running dry, so pretty much im getting high off singing, now aint that some crazy shit?
