Greetings, and question on contest regularity

Hi everyone. This is my first time posting. I am interested in participating in a cover contest, but I doubt I will have time to have anything done for next monday. How often are these contests usually held?

Also, I have never recorded before. I think I have Soundforge. Is that any good for recording, or should I get something else?
