a better songwriter? i really dig mayer, but i really don't think he has anything on daves lyrics, and he definately doesnt own musically. i could go into this, but i wouldnt be saying anything new.

Look here it is, Mayer is technically the better player, but with that comes the bullshit songs he puts out, mayer has 2 good songs. Being a good guitar player is not all about raw talent but feel and a good songwriting sense as well and in both of those categories dave whips the dogshit outf of him so my vote goes to dave. John Mayer sucks ass.

i agree with the guitarist part...mayer's better... but the songwriting i disagree...dave all the way...

I think they both have pretty cruddy voices, even in my DMB hayday I wasn't a huge fan of Dave's voice...lesser of two evils, dave mumbles too much, john just sounds dumb.
