Some MP3's from our last show

Unread post by gregplaysguitar » Wed Jan 12, 2005 6:32 pm

We started off as a dmb cover band and then started writing our own songs. These were recorded on a minidisk very last minute so the mix is less than great, but it gives you a general idea. Let me know what you think. there are 5 total mp3s, two dave, three original.

Hold On
#41
halloween
Right or Wrong
On The Fly

Like I said, the levels suck, but for our first recording it's not so bad. We've been playing together about 2 months when this was recorded.

i have always loved your stuffs.

the only thing that was bad about it was the drummer sound like he was playing bongos, and the vocal could have projected a little more.

Awesome tho.

Yeah, like I said it's a terrible mix, and there weren't enough mics to properly mic the drum set, usually the venue we play at is small enough that we don't need to mic the drums, but since we were gonna try and record we found a few extra but it wasn't quite enough. Thanks though for checking everything out. Listen to the halloween, it's a great version with a drum solo before that turned out pretty OK.

Thanks again.

The music is great.
The vocals need work though. You're growling too many notes, it's generally pitchy, and your falsetto is off. I think you should simplify things and try to get into key before you start adding nuances. I can tell you that if you keep singing like that your career as a vocalist will be short lived. If you're really serious about performing than get a vocal coach.

Other than the recording quality, no complaints. Very solid. I'm glad we have some more instruments in here. (sax) Of course I haven't been here long, so their might be others. If you have any studio/not live recordings I would really like to hear them.

I think they were good and really good for only playing together for 2 months. I liked your voice, though I would prefer a little less growl in it. AT points to me the sax sounds a bit off but I can't put my finger on exactly why that is.

Thanks alot, I'm actually not the singer, I play lead guitar, but our singer is still in his infancy of singing if you will. He has come a long way even since those recordings. It's all about having fun!

I had a feeling you weren't the singer.

My critique was a little more severe only because you guys are gigging musicians. It's definately all about having fun but I'm very serious when I hear someone who has potentially harmful technique. Just thought I'd clarify.

No need to clarify MWR.....you are absolutly right. I'm a vocal major, but I play lead guitar, go figure, but I'm constatly telling him to sing from his diaphragm and not his throat, and he actually has made great strides since this recording. We've now been together almost 6 months, and there are times when he suprises me with his technique. Then there are times when he really growls. One thing is for sure, he definetly puts heart into it. At the end of the day, you are right, and it is potentially dangerous to sing like he does.
