Dave's D&T strumming

Unread post by GreedyLittlePig » Sun Jul 13, 2003 9:36 pm

I was listening to a couple of these new D&T shows from '03 and Dave's strumming is completely mezmerizing me. Not that it didn't before, but now I find myself listening with my ear cocked to the side because it just seems like he's palm muting but strumming at the same time. Ya know..it just seems more prevalent now than ever before. Anyone else notice this from these shows as compared to '99 and before shows. #41 and DDTW are good examples of this. Listen to old shows and then listen to a new one and Dave's playing is so much more now. Anyway...

Dave's strumming is amazing if you really listen to it.

Oh and the whole "Get a Life" thing - Yeah, don't forget you are posting on a message board too.

Refering to the "Get A Life" I was obviously not refering to posting messages on boards seeing as how I am doing that now. I was refering to the guys overanalyzation of dave's playing. Sure yes dave can be amazing, but dont read to much into it, take it as it is. and as for fatjack, shut the fuck up

What do you mean "read too much into it"? The guy is explaining how awesome it sounds, his love for the music, and is most definitely taking it "as it is". Love the sarcasm by the way.

Imwithfatjack ...riight you can say that stuff it makes you happy. whatever floats your boat. but i'll admit that i study the HELL out of dave's strumming. i've spent countless hours just mezmorized as i watch dave play on the two DVDs i have and countless other downloaded videos. and i have the show from 4-4-03 . and this is true. dave has become deadly accurate after 10-12 years of playing out. his strumming is so nasty that you can hear single notes within many of the strums. its absolutely sick. i'll tell ya. the one thing i've noticed in all the videos...dave's right hand.. he keeps it closed..but if you try to like.."half palm mute" or "half strum" like that its not very effective. but. i notice that he keeps his middle finger open. you can see it on Storytellers and many many more..like, all of them. this is what makes it possible--to strum like dave. (well, one of the things that makes it possible at least) also, during the verse of many songs, like jimi thing and crush, he tilts his right hand out so that he's kind of muting. he has complete control. then during chorus' you'll see him do the full strum hand straightened out. he's frign amazing.

i think its obvious that i know I'mWithFatjack, so i'll try to explain something...

he has plenty of respect for Dave's music, and yes he could play Dave if he wanted to (he just doesn't that much). he's played guitar for about 8 years and is much better than me, to say the least.

he just has a problem with openly fuckin' with people that are faceless to him, he just likes gettin' people angry for shits and giggles... so don't ignore him completely (he can give some good advice if he'd stop being an asshole sometimes...). just ignore him whenever he says something stupid...

isn't nothing more then tomfoolery...

Alright Corona what the fuck ever. Listen to me. I acknowledge that Dave Matthews can strum quite well. But you know that only took me about 15 seconds to realize. I didnt have to study "the hell" out of dave to understand what he was playing, obviously if it takes you that much time to do it than your musical ear isnt worth a god damn. So dont go off telling me i cant play dave and that i dont respect him (whoever said that) just because i dont have to spend countless hours studying and praising him. If i didnt respect dave matthews i wouldnt be on this godforsaken site. Thanks.

heh...it's just that I have come to realize that people who say Dave's music is easy, or uncreative, really can't play Dave at all; therefore thinking that just because they can hit somewhat of the right notes, they are "playing" Dave Matthews and it's "easy".
