weird buzzing

I havent played my guitar in about a month since ive been home for winter break...I came back and of course started playing today and found a really strange buzzing noise that I had never heard before....on my b and high e strings from about the 10th fret and up...they make a really strange buzzing noise..it sounds like someone is shaking a bag of coins or something....

what could the problem be?

temperature change if you left your house cold when you';re gone. humidity can be it also. or the guitar could just be pissed at you for leaving it idle so long. maybe it wants more action (as in action adjustment lol)

new set of strings? or maybe the fretboard needs cleaning.

Hate to say this, but if you left it out on a stand over break, humidity may be the problem. It got a little dry and started to bow. Re-humidify it or something and try to bring it back down. You neck looked like this once ---------------------. Now how you described it, it may look like this... ----------___. Sorry for the horrible drawing, but you get the point, it turned at the bottom, hence the buzz. Try having someone adjust the truss rod also, that might help, I'm not sure though. Good luck either way.

I was thinking about that at first but I kept it in its case over break, not out in the open on the stand...

It sounds better now, I think I just need new strings...if I keep having problems im gonna take it to the guitar store and have it checked out...thanks for everyone input though

I got a re-humidify thingy in it now...any idea how long I should leave it in there for best results?

ok now this problem is really bugging me...I just realized that now the high e is producing the same note on the 13th and 14th frets...along with the weird buzzing that is only occuring from the 10th to about the 13th....what the hell is going on here???

switch to a higher gauge string. i had the exact same problem with lights, changed to mediums and have had no problems since.

which problems exactly? the buzzing or the notes being the same?

thanks though....

so Ive adjusted the neck and the buzzing now only occurs on the 12th and 13th frets...still having the same problem with the 13th and 14th frets being the same note though

the reason the 13th and 14th fret are playing the same note is because your action is so low that when u press down the 13th fret the 14th fret touches the string enough to change the note. the higher gauge strings will most likely fix these problems

Hey man, All these things are true and It could be any one of them. Just last year I had the EXACT same problem on my taylor. My particular problem was with humidity. It was drastically dried out and it needed to be humidified for 2 weeks. I sounds like you have been keeping it in its case so humidity shouldn't be a problem, but you never know. If the guitar is worth a lot to you I would take it to a pro, unless you really know what you are doing. My 2 cents....

yea, Its classic signs of being dried out now that Ive learned more. My case really is actually just a gig bag so it didnt really protect it while I was out of town...especially after learning my roommate left the dorm window open for 3 weeks while we were gone...Ill be humidifying it for a while and my dorm room will be back at a more normal temperature so im hoping itll fix itself with little adjustment by me in a few weeks...if not im taking it to a pro..
