Slight Problem

Unread post by sniperoakes » Sun Jan 09, 2005 8:25 pm

Hello everyone, I have a quick question. I'm fairly new to the guitar and have a Silvertone guitar I got a few months back for my birthday. I just recently learned what the action with relation to the strings are and that's where my question comes in. I left my guitar in my dorm (I go to Appalachian State), and when I returned from Christmas break it was like a sauna in the room. I went to get my guitar and I noticed ALL of the strings were practically touching the fretboard. What happened? Does excessive heat cause the action to lower or something? Anyways, if I take it to a shop, can they fix it, and it so, how much do they usually charge for something like that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

depending on how bad it is, it might fix it self if you get it to "dry" out a little. Over-humidification isn't nearly as dangerous as under-humidification.

Thanks, it's been like 4 days at normal temperature and it still is where it's at, I'm thinking some ninja must have come in and beat the shit out of the neck or something, hopefully it returns to normal though.

oh shit. you go to app? that's where i go...er, will be going as soon as i get back. got one year left. what year are you?

as far as adjusting the rod yourself, i wouldn't suggest it. you can do it, but you can mess it up too. getting a new bridge can help too. i got one here that lowered and i just put a small piece of cardboard under the bridge. don't do that if it's a nice guitar, but i'd just take it to a shop. take it the guy in the mall at the end, i can't remember the name of it, but he's really good and he's never charged me for any of the work i've had done on my martin.
