Yea, I know tim is a weird guy, but like I said, you can clearly tell it's dave saying that, because it doesn't seem like something tim would say

my friends sister interns at his record company in VA, she says that he is constantly drunk...also he wont introduce himself as dave, but David

I would if I were him, because it would be a pain in the ass to introduce yourself as dave and have everybody scream your name hysterically. It would throw people off. Most people call me Davy, but I always introduce myself as David because I feel its more affirming.
