I've downloaded the 6.17, 6.18, and 6.20 (which I was at) shows, and every one of them, whenever Boyd Tinsley has a solo or important part of the song, he is horribly, paninfully out of tune. Or, he doesn't play in the right time with the rest of the band. It can't just be coincidence, I mean, he would have it fixed and make sure it was fixed before the next concert. Is he doing it intentionally? I mean, listen to The Stone from either night it was played. I was really upset. No offense to him, and I don't want to start a big fight here, but these are really great concerts, and a lot of the times the song is amazing, then Boyd comes in and ruins it..

sorry but boyd sucking isn't exactly a new thing. People think it's because he turns his monitors up to loud, and so he's going deaf. Which kinda sucks cause back in the day Boyd's parts were really important and really treasured. Now, eh, I feel I could live without them.
Btw: where did you find those downloads. I want those shows reaaaaaaaaaaal bad. I've been checkin the setlists and they've been getting me pumped up for this tour. So yeh, where did you get the shows from, please tell.

go to sharingthegroove.org
follow instructions there to download the audio bit torrent program, then go to the Audio Bit Torrent Downloads forum, then go to the 2003 Summer Tours... that website has all the instructions to get the program and the download to work.
by far, the one with the best sound quality is 6.20...I'd recommend that one first, the taper was in the front row

The Jones source specifically; it's actually a 4-source matrix, and it is great.

If you go over to the bridge forum, There are about 50 threads dealing with Boyds off-tune solos.

I bet. But those guys are ready to tear the arms off their own mothers, so I'm not over there that often

Yeah the Boyd thing was out of control for a few days. Somone actually wanted to submit a petition to Bama Rags, asking them to remove Boyd from the band.

i have a bunch of the shows too and i can't believe what is coming out of that violin. At times it seems like he is playing out of tune (stone, pig, when the world ends) but if you really listen to it he often simply just playing WRONG NOTES. How the hell he is doing that i have no idea. Just listen to the last part of the stone, and he is a half step high on a note he holds out for an entire measure, then a couple of measures later he will play it right. Now i don't play violin but comparing it to guitar, i would THINK that he should know by now where to put his fingers to play a C as opposed to a C#. I'm just thinking that maybe he can't hear himself at all when they play so he doesn't know???? I know boyd will never be a great violin player, but i just wish someone will tell him to at least play the right notes, i don't think that's asking all that much!

Still, it's about time somebody spoke up about Boyd's lousy solos. The Dave Matthews Band has long had a reputation for their incredible musicianship on tour, and Boyd could ruin it.
I sure hope Boyd doesn't fuck up at the gorge. I've been looking forward to the gorge for a long time.
One hypothesis could be that Boyd is particularly high on this tour when he plays, or certainly more so than Dave is on regular basis.

i'm also thinking that with recording and promoting his CD he didn't have as much time to rehearse with the band.

He's been making people cringe for the last few years, way before the solo album.
In college, I roomed with a Viola major. He said that every single person who has a shred of competence with regards to string instuments think that Boyd really, really, really sucks. He refered to his style as "sawing the log".

This thread has motivated me to listen to him more carefully on my copy of the freshly downloaded 7/9 concert in Minneapolis.
I had no idea it was THIS bad. Listen to the intro to Pig. Wow. If he has no motivation to correct the multiple errors, then he should quit. He's ruining the songs.
