a question about mode

ok i have a few questions.

can modes be anywhere?
I am confused, comparing the two pictures below.

pic1 mode 2 is dorian

pic2 D Dorian

they are both in C major, so, lets just take dorian mode as an example, it doesnt have to be a particular place right? then why does pic1 tells that dorian is at that particular spot?

am i making sense?[/img]

(modes can be anywhere, the picture is like a shortcut shit)
modes are just the notesof a certain scale in a different order ...somethinglike that.

dont worry about modes now.. tran mann.. after 7 months LEARN THE SCALES REGULAR.

I can help you learn them....on AIM. if you want.

no, i have been using scales for long now, but i want to look at modes because they create solo boxes, or at least i think they do lol.

cool, i am interested to see what type of diagram you got this time. Can you use technical terms instead of dont-need-to-know-nothing terms? awesome man.

A mode is just a major scale that starts on a different scale degree. Someone who isn't familiar with the chord/scale relationship will have a hard time getting anything out of modes. C major and G mixolydian share the exact same notes (no sharps or flats) but the harmony and tonal center are different. If your playing a I, IV, V progression in C major(C, F, G) and you're blindy hitting notes from the C mixlydian scale which has a Bb, then you'll inevitably hit the Bb over the G and the result is poopiness cause G has a B in it and Bb and B just don't mix. You could play C mixo over the C to get a bluesy sound or the F to get an 11th but point is you need to now the chord/scale relationship to begin thinking in this manner.
Physically learning the modes is simple because once you know the major scale in one key than you know all the relative modes. It's using them in the right context that takes practice and study.

Yea..I didn't really mean a scale in a different key..that doesn't even make much sense. I know all my modes because I had to write them all for theory class. So I just feel like a jackass for saying that..because I knew it wasn't right

I'm not trying to impress. I'm trying put this stuff in perspective. We're making music using the same notes as Mozart, Hendrix and everyone inbetween. Don't underestimate it. Music is science, math, and art all rolled into one and it will kick your ass if you don't put in the effort to understand it beyond how it relates to your particular instrument.

I realize that and i see the infinite depth of music, but it is unbelievable how the sound of flexibility can be so structured and formulated. Very unique and interesting to explore.
