hardest thing you've yet to learn on guitar...?

Unread post by Dancing Ants » Wed Jan 05, 2005 2:28 pm

technique, song, etc...??

for me, it's got to be that SUPER UBER FAST alternate picking...so hard. my hand won't stay with me. I'm still trying it, but it is kicking my ass. That and being able to pull off a harmonic with no prob. I can do them...but they're challenging.

i still cant get tapping down but the hardest thing i know is the slap pop intro to phunkified. (waits for people to deny that i can play it) some things come really naturally to me like the alternate picking you speak of and rolls, other things i had to work an insane anmount of time on such as barre chords (i know pathetic) everyones different

Well, there are certain things on guitar that you cant learn by reading books, but it takes time and practice.

i agree with alternate picking, it seems so awkward...

i am working on refinement, being able to play flawlessly and professionally.

with enough practice, i've never not been able to learn a song. my problem is creativity. i know all these songs but i can't make anything up that's my own. i know soo many chords and runs and picking patterns and i still can't create something that doesn't sound like turd.

Slide guitar was really, really hard for me when I first started learning, but once I reached a certain point, it just all became very easy, well relatively easy.

All I've pretty much been doing lately is tapping (more like 75%). I've just been doing it alot, and it's taking me a while to get it down. The one thing I can tell you all that it takes practice and a pretty long time. I remember a while ago, I couldn't get any sound out my right hand. I'd be so confused. ha. But yeah, I'm fairly comfortable with it now. My latest tune has alot of tapping in it.

I wanna hear your new song Pat, are you gonna post it?

One of the hardest things that I've learned is to play fingerpicking patterns and sing at the same time. Especially hard if the rhythms don't really match up.

Tapping needs low action...and if you can play a piano you can tap on guitar. that's the hardest part, is getting your hands to work together and play different parts. tapping is SO easy with low action, and i mean sickyl low action.

I use a pretty standard metal slide and I play on my acoustic, with medium gauge strings, which actually really helped a lot. I would higly recommend slide, it's very fun and you can get a lot of differen't sounds out of it.
