So my setup is as follows... A Shure mic plugged into an AudioBuddy dual mic preamp, and the preamp plugged into my soundcard's "mic input' jack. I record with Sound Forge 6...
Usually, everything works swell... The preamp works as it should, boosting the signal as expected.
But occasionally the preamp kinda fails... I'll go to record, and even with the gain turned to the max on the preamp, the signal is still noticeably low. Low enough that after recording I'll have to do a volume boost to get it to a reasonable level.
It's really hit or miss too... Sometimes when this happens, I can close Sound Forge, reopen it and hit the record button and voila - the signal is back to normal. Other times I'l have to restart my computer...and sometimes this doesn't even work.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what would be causing the signal or preamp to "fall out" at random times??
Need HELP regarding a preamp/recording annoyance...

i assume the preamp goes to an external source of power... anyway, it might be the speed of your computer if you say restarting helps. Make sure you dont run too many applications at the same time and use a recording software that wont take up too many CPUs.
