So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Need Drop-D help

Unread post by pearljammer » Mon Jan 03, 2005 1:01 pm

I have been playing guitar for a while now, but i haven't messed with alt. tunings much at all. I've tried to follow the instructions on the site for getting drop-D tuning, but i just don't think it sounds right. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to get my guitar to drop-D?

The 7th fret of the E string will sound the same as an open A string when you have tuned correctly to drop D. Either that or use an electronic tuner.

If you have a good ear for it, and if your guitar is fully in tune, try doing it like this, it's how I do it... hit the Low E string open and then hit the D string open, and tune the Low E till it sounds in tune with the open D string. And if you want to check it, you can do a few things, do as TicTacs says and fret the Low E on the 7th fret and then hit the A string and it should sound in tune, or hit the harmonic(hold a finger slightly on the Low E, or what is now the D string) at the 12th fret and hit the D string open, and they should sound exactly the same. And you should be set to go.

And if I did anything to confuse you in anyway, just ignore me ;-)
