Re: Playing takes time!
You guys confused the hell out of me, what I meant was that a lot of people here say they can play a certain song when it doesn't sound nearly as GOOD as the original. I didn't mean spot on like Dave plays it, but there are things Dave does during his songs that can't be expressed on paper.DMB_FAN wrote:I think he was saying....trippin6strings wrote:i think he was saying that theres tons of people (especially on these boards) that can play all of DMBs songs, but noone can really get that perfect crisp sound that dave somehow manages to pull off within and throughout everysong he plays on stage, not just his knowledge or idea of music. i admit we've got some really talented musicians on these boards and a lot of them are way more talented than dave but the guy has a gift that requires a great amount of effort to match, i know i've got quite a ways to goBigSpeen3436 wrote:I disagree. Don't spend all your time trying to learn to play just like Dave because you'll limit yourself as a guitarist. Or something like that...

exactly. just because your friends who have no musical ear say it sounds perfect DOES NOT mean that you can play the song like the original. i know that because that's what my friends say.
tehre are things that come from just being a better player, feel type things, that you can't see in the tab. you can only hear it.

I can play dave's songs really well, only because I've been playing guitar for about 4 years..it's not spot on, but it's damn goodBigSpeen3436 wrote:You guys confused the hell out of me, what I meant was that a lot of people here say they can play a certain song when it doesn't sound nearly as GOOD as the original. Yeah I wasn't really talkin about you, just the people who haven't even been playing for a year. I have never heard anyone who can play 80% of daves song perfectly with less than a year of playing under their belt.DMBFan63 wrote:I can play dave's songs really well, only because I've been playing guitar for about 4 years..it's not spot on, but it's damn goodBigSpeen3436 wrote:You guys confused the hell out of me, what I meant was that a lot of people here say they can play a certain song when it doesn't sound nearly as GOOD as the original. Yea, I completely agree. I just completely disagree with whoever said it's bad for someone to try and copy dave's style, because it helps you musically knowning different styles of music..BigSpeen3436 wrote:Yeah I wasn't really talkin about you, just the people who haven't even been playing for a year. all i read in this thread is how people are showing off by how much training they have had, or what songs they can play, or how long they've been playing.
dave does his own thing, if you want to copy it than have fun, if you want to learn from it then good for you but stop the mindless bickering.

I take every gif I watch (which is A LOT) with a humongous grain of salt. But I don't let that grain of salt get into my eye and blind me to whatever truth can be found in what I'm watching. He is not any worse than any other poster here, and the people who claim he is just don't know what they're talking about. The demonization has gotten ridiculously out of hand.

if you actually read any of the posts I posted, I was saying that it doesn't matter if they want to copy dave' style, because it's helpful to learn different styleschosta wrote:all i read in this thread is how people are showing off by how much training they have had, or what songs they can play, or how long they've been playing.

not to mention dave wrote the song, so his feel for the song ultimatley has to be better, no matter how much practicing you do, youre really just mimicking the songi-am-me wrote:exactly. just because your friends who have no musical ear say it sounds perfect DOES NOT mean that you can play the song like the original. i know that because that's what my friends say.

To recreate that signature sound, 20 years practicing the same material will help, and the finest equipment that money can buy wouldn't hurt either.
Let us not forget DJM uses certain preamps to get that sound we have come to love.

I don't play Dave any longer, simply because its boring as hell.. But there was a time when I could play is songs pretty well. His style basically taught me how to strum and mute, and thats HUGE when learning other kinds of music.

how dare you... hehe jk. i dont agree but i guess i can see how veteran guitar player could get tired of playing the same songs (why i always strive to write) but im pretty confident that in 50 years im still gonna be jammin to some sweet ol' dave songsRyeguy wrote:I don't play Dave any longer, simply because its boring as hell..
