Crash "in a boys dream" part

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Crash "in a boys dream" part

Unread post by fsuseminole09 » Wed Jul 09, 2003 7:10 pm

Anyone else have trouble playing this part? I cant figure out how it is strummed or where the chord changes are. Any advice for playing this?

lol we all had trouble with it. Go to this page. http://www.dmbtabs.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=3261

It explains both the timmy part and the dave part. (I asked the same question hehe)

now this is pissing me off too...can someone put up an mp3 file of just that part...would be easy to learn without the damn strumming from timmy in story tellers.

nevermind...2 minutes after writing that previous reply i figured it out just strum with the rythm of the song but play the first chord 4 times instead of 1. Its not that bad.

Thanks everyone for the help, you guys rock. I think I've got it now the main thing was I always heard 4 of the first chord and the tab said 5 so that threw everything off when I played with Luther. One last question when your playing the verse chords through in the second half of this part do you play them faster than in the actual verse or same speed (i think somebody posted something about this in one of those links)?

Listen to that. The "In a boy's dream..." part starts about at 0:31 and ends at about 0:44. The regular verse part is on each side of that.

The part you're having trouble with isn't played faster, but sort of opposite of the regular verse. The strumming pattern is reversed, which you can hear very easily by the bass notes.

i just down-loaded that file and its fuckin' smooth. i wish i had the recording ability to do that. i use musicmatch but i don't have the connections for the guitar to the computer which is probably a very small purchase?
i had the hardest time learning the chorus part of crash since it was the first dave song i taught myself but that is a great recording. i love new strings. if anyone has followed my posts which are far and few but i just bought a new guitar and its was strung with jazz strings and i've been too....ok, pussy to re-string it with standard strings cause i don't want to fuck up the neck but its gonna happen soon cause i hate the flat sound of jazz strings, especially with dave songs. gotta have that ring!
drunk still......woo hoo!

Nice job! I have procrastinated learning this song, but I guess I'll have to now. I'll start saving for my carpal tunnel operation. Between this and Tripping Billies, my left hand is turning into a claw...

Anyone going to the Gorge??

Everyone is welcome, that was like the second Dave song I learned, so I feel like an expert on it by now. It took me a long time to learn it also, just the pattern. I'm only using a Labtec computer microphone (like $12 at WalMart, and Cool Edit Pro to record everything I do. I just point the mike at the soundhole of my guitar and play).

Oh yeah, I'm 19.
