DD-20 vs. DL4

Unread post by jeffro » Mon Dec 27, 2004 10:34 pm

Alright guys, I want a delay pedal. But not only do I want a delay pedal, I want to be able to loop. I've decided that shelling out $300 for an RC-20 is just not reasonable for me, since basically all the RC-20 does is loop (as far as I can tell). So I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Boss DD-20 and the Line-6 Dl4.

Looking at the musicians friend reviews, the dd-20 looks better. Based on the sound clips, the dd-20 sounds better. But does it loop? Also, anyone who has a Dl-4, are the effects as boring as the sound on the sound clips? I doubt it, but it never hurts to ask.

the RC-20 also has a drum machine where you can make your own custom beats...

BUT id go for the line 6, they make good stuff, theres 23 effect choices and settings, has a 14 seconds loop, and you can changed relays quickly.

Yeah, I've heard the line 6 in action and is seems like what I want, but the Boss advertises 23 seconds of "sound on sound" recording. could that mean loop?

I used to own a DL4 and wound up selling it to a friend. I've been wanting a dd20 for some time. I've played with it a few times at a local store and it is much more versatile. It has 23 seconds of delay, so you could loop a chord progression and solo over it. You can also layer loops with it.

I would suggest tracking both pedals down locally if you can and trying them both extensively.

Sorry for the brief response originally, but I'm at work and I had 2 seconds to finish my post and click submit.

I just got a DL4 for christmas... soooo easy to use, and you CAN layer loops to - its called overdubing

I play a lot of howie day, and lemme tell you.. after like 15 minutes i had a sweet ass version of Ghost looping over and over.. so hot

It takes a little while to get timing down, but after a little practice you can get clear, crisp, fast, tight loops going - like DMB satellite for instance. I played crash into me, and then did some tim fills over it... so sweet

I also like the "play once then stop" button on it. If your song is about to go into a bridge you hit that and it'll stop at the end of the loop - allowing you to play the bridge (which is different than whats in the loop) seamlessly - HOT!

i've never played on the other pedals but i'm very very happy with my DL4. loops like a champ, easy to use, does everything i wanted to do with it and more.. wow i sound like a DL4 advertisment. anyhow its a good investment and can really show off your guitar skills / just have fun playing with yourself. Hit me up on IM, i'll send you some live howie day songs that use the DL4 for looping

oh one more thing, those sound bytes at
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=h ... _id/103518
are all easily achievable with the DL4

edit: damn, sorry to keep posting, but the sound bytes on that other link are pretty shitty for the DL4. Its way more capable, and sounds a lot better than that loop clip
